Dear Editor:

It’s October 31st and an armada of volunteers show up to help get the “Co-op Family Pumpkin Walk” underway. I would like to individually thank all of the businesses, groups and individuals that assisted in making this event the success it has been for the past 6 years. These are but a tiny fraction of the people that were there to help. Individuals like Betty Properzi who stayed for the entire day helping set up the course, Amy Newton who has set up so many of our beautiful ads, and who donated more than just some décor and days of labour to help us out. Chris Jensen, who was available for any task, and Perry Pickrell who donated his Smoky Lake pumpkins for us to carve and use as a fire pit. To all of the teachers and students at the Elementary and High School who take valuable class time to carve all the pumpkins for the walk. There is also a ridiculous amount of time put in by our own staff and board of Directors all volunteer. My hope is that more business get inspired to build booths next year, get your neighbourhood businesses to join in with you to create massive booths. New ideas are always welcome! So it’s time individuals and businesses to somehow, get involved, our town needs more volunteers were all only human, we grow tired, and we need new blood and more energy. I know that I forgot someone, somewhere, so thank you everyone this event means so much to not only me personally but to our community as well.

Brian Lamha, Barrhead &Districts Co-op Ltd.
