Dear Editor,
On June 4, 2014 - three members of the RCMP were senselessly murdered in Moncton, NB. Two others were wounded by gunfire and the community of Moncton was terrorized for over 30 hours. Ultimately the gunman was arrested and will answer for his crimes to a court of law. Since this tragedy the members and staff at Barrhead Detachment have been overwhelmed by the show of support and expressions of condolence that we have received. All too often we deal with hostility and tragedy. Policing usually feels like a thankless profession but in times of tragedy like we saw last week we are reminded that the vast majority of people support our efforts to keep Barrhead, and Canada as a whole, a safe place to live. We have received flowers, cards, chocolates and baking along with numerous expressions of sympathy and gratitude at our front counter and throughout our community. I cannot express how much these sentiments mean to our staff and to me personally. Barrhead has always been a supportive community but in times like these we have seen our citizens go above and beyond to remind us how the community really feels about us. On behalf of the members and staff at Barrhead Detachment RCMP I would like to thank the citizens of Barrhead and area for your unwavering support and compassion.
R.W. Dodds,
Sgt. Barrhead Detachment RCMP
