Thanks Barrhead, good job!

On behalf of the Calgary tennis players (four of us altogether) who attended the recent Barrhead senior games tennis tournament, we would like to make a few observations.

We are tempted to award the said tennis tournament eight thumbs up for its precision, spirit and good coffee (thanks Edie). Such a high mark would and should be expected, given that the Mayor himself, his loyal CAO Martin, Lyle the Linesman and various other handpicked volunteers were expertly managing the affair. This unprecedented array of management talent notwithstanding, we find ourselves deducting one thumb up because the tournament’s line call challenge system involved his Worship schmoozing with the spectators as to their political views on the “in or out” issue! Ah….democracy.

We were fairly excited about coming to Barrhead when we were able to book (at a favourable rate) accommodation at what we thought was the Meridien hotel penthouse. Alas we failed to notice the actual reservation was in fact the top level at Meridian. Although the view and air conditioning were fabulous, we found the place a bit seedy. Fortunately, really nice rooms were available next door at the Barrhead Inn (eight thumbs up there).

We also enjoyed the fine Friday feast at Piccolo Italia with the company of some friendly Barrheadians and the warm hospitality of Ernie and Layla (..lay..lay..lay..la…lay-la). Another eight thumbs up for a wonderful evening.

And of course thanks are in order to the Red Baron’s James for his enthusiasm, straight pool cues (a rarety anywhere!) and Cheers-like atmosphere (as usual, eight TU’s).

Thanks Barrhead, good job!

Mark Ferrier and Jack Gordon,

Calgary
