This is a good week to remember the things that are truly important.
A pair of events this week will raise money for cancer research, in the hopes of helping those currently battling the disease, and of making future generations safe from it.
On Friday in Athabasca, tireless members of the community will spend the night walking and running at Athabasca University and the Multiplex, sharing their memories of those they have lost to the disease while cheering as those who have survived it enjoy their rightful moments in the sun.
In Boyle on Saturday, the 11th annual Bryan Mudryk Golf Classic will take over Skeleton Lake Golf Club and then the Boyle Community Centre. Boyle native and the eventís namesake Bryan Mudryk is a cancer survivor and pledged to raise $1 million for the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton, where he was treated. Just over a decade later, thanks to unending hard work and generosity from members of the community, his dream is set to come true.
Both events are examples of what is possible when a community puts aside their disagreements and works together towards a single cause. Both are successes to be proud of.
