Thistle problem near Brookside

Dear Editor,

Re: Canada Thistle/Dandelions - land North and adjacent to Brookside Village

The Board of Directors, on behalf of the Barrhead Brookside Village Condominium Association residents, have recently reviewed the Canada Thistle public service announcements recently placed in the Barrhead Leader by the Agriculture Service Board. The public service announcement made us aware that there are effective methods of controlling Canada Thistle that are growing on the land north and adjacent to Brookside Village. Would it be possible to control the dandelions on this land at the same time as controlling the thistle problem? We would very much appreciate it if Rose Country would spray, till or mow this land next year in order to “kill” these plants before they have the opportunity to mature and go, “to seed” another time. I would make this ongoing issue gradually disappear if the source of the seeds was eliminated. Another point of concern is that there has been some tansy plants spotted on this land. It is our understanding that this plant is considered a “noxious weed” in this area. The extra mowing that was done in September this year was very much appreciated and we thank you for that.

Thank you for your consideration to our concerns next spring, summer and fall.

Very truly yours,

Glen Simmonds, President
