Tough Times Ahead

Times are hard, at least that is how headlines are making it seem, declaring the drop of oil prices as what could potentially be the end to humanity as we know it.

Times are hard, at least that is how headlines are making it seem, declaring the drop of oil prices as what could potentially be the end to humanity as we know it.

Premier Jim Prentice has recently told the people of Alberta that the province may need to start eyeing up their $5 billion “fiscal shock” fund, also known as the Contingency Fund.

As it seems, the ever-dropping price of oil is causing some turmoil across the province. Millions of people around Canada are rejoicing at the minimal cost to fill up their gas tanks.

Is it possible that other residents in other provinces can understand, or even see, the difficult times Alberta may be facing?

Prentice has been saying how Alberta is one of the most resilient provinces, adding not only do they have no net-debt to speak of, but the government has no intention of hiking up taxes to help during these challenging times.

Of course, every other province is enjoying the low cost of oil, while Alberta sits here counting their coins to make sure they can make it through the Christmas season without having their power shut off.

If Prentice should be saying anything it should be two words: buckle up.
