Dear Editor,
I read the September 16th issue of the Barrhead Leader and was again disappointed in the Town of Barrhead and how they are pushing the pool at whatever the cost no matter what.
I live in the County of Barrhead and I don't use the pool. Regardless, I think the Barrhead area needs a pool. Will a new pool bring more people to Barrhead to live? I doubt it. The people that have always used the pool will continue to do so.
The County has found a company that can provide a building at much less cost, with a 25 year warranty. Will it work for our communities? We don't know. By the Town refusing to go take a look at a sample project, shows a lack of willingness to approach new ideas and lower the cost of the pool. This town needs to open their minds to a better community, by bringing in new businesses and not by throwing money at an old problem.
In the post, the Town gave the County an ultimatum and when the County refused to acknowledge that, then the Town forced the County into amalgamation talks. I suggested to my Councillor not to give the $5 million for the pool because I do not like being bullied. I thought we were trying to teach our children not to bully others, so why does the Town think it's okay to bully the County.
I believe that if theTown would learn a little humility and respect they could apologize and offer to sit down with the County and open their minds to other ideas. We could have a good working relationship with each other and a new pool in the very near future.
