Barrhead’s Queen of Hearts Triathlon was a hit this year. Though the event is over and done with until 2014, the feeling of accomplishment still lingers with the participants.
Feedback from the athletes, both local and out of town, has been nothing but positive for the growing event. There is a reason the triathlon has become increasingly popular over the past four years.
Barrhead was well represented by volunteers, though by now locals and visitors should expect nothing less from our vibrant community.
It’s no secret there are a number of outstanding and committed volunteers always willing to put in their full efforts. In this case, over 70 individuals came out to help.
Athletes have praised all those who gave their time for the event, saying it was those men and women that made the triathlon possible. Volunteers also doubled as enthusiastic supporters, though there was no shortage in that department either.
Athletes said the triathlon was extremely well organized. Many ladies agreed they felt very safe on the route, unlike some of the other races they have taken part in.
The event is open to women of all athletic ability levels. Because it offers a comfortable and encouraging environment, the triathlon is great for first-timers.
The amount of work that goes into the training process is the obvious advantage to taking part in a triathlon. Some use the race to stay active and continue their healthy lifestyle. For others, it’s the motivation they need to push themselves and get into shape.
However the event goes beyond the physical benefit. It’s an opportunity to earn a feeling of accomplishment and pride. With crossing the finish line comes a sense of fulfillment and self-worth.
Of course, it helps when the last stretch before the finish line is crawling with people all there to support each and every athlete. Regardless of whether the people in the crowd knew the women coming in, there was an abundance cheers and clapping.
This level of support from a community is what keeps an event like the Queen of Hearts Triathlon going. Why wouldn’t a participant want to return to a place where her efforts and determination were not only appreciated, but applauded?
If things continue the way they have been, the Queen of Hearts Triathlon will be bigger and better than ever next year. And for many years to come.
