Village and College working together

The relationship between the Village of Boyle and Portage College shined this week with stories about the Campus of Continuous Care and the Heavy Equipment Operator progam. What those ongoing efforts show is a commitment from the college to work with stakeholders in the area, an idea that Portage President Dr. Trent Keough makes an effort to emphasize at every opportunity.

That administration understands that to be successful in any community, they must acknowledge and give the local people a say.

Boyle too understands the importance of developing positive relationships with an organization that may play an important role in the community’s future.

That understanding was shown in spades last week with the generous donation of a ten acre piece of land for the college’s Heavy Equipment Operator program by the Szmyrkos. With years of experience in the construction industry the couple recognized the struggles of filling machine operator positions, and chose to do something about it.

Same goes with efforts towards the Campus of Continuous Care. When the people of Boyle recognized an increasing need to let residents ‘age in place,’ Portage College came in to say what they could offer, a partnership that will benefit all parties involved.

The future of Boyle is looking bright, thanks to the recognition and reinforcement of such mutually beneficial relationships.
