Dear Editor,
The platitudes were flying thick and fast in recent elections giving reasons as to why we should vote for one and not the others.
Could you all read your own brochures and ads, then do your own introspection? No doubt most of you candidates were going to look after taxpayers dollars.
But the public naturally would believe that this means keeping tax burdens down which now seems heading in the wrong direction if our politicians get their bragging rights to build a city size swimming pool in small town Barrhead.
The fact of the matter lies in neglect of proper maintenance of the pool we had. Don’t expect the ones that got us into this problem to get us out of it.
Criticizing the County who are keeping the better financial restraint is not at all constructive. Borrowing huge sums of money with hefty interest, is not wise.
To grab $300 a year from a taxpayer and various amounts from all taxpayers who won’t even be using the pool, is not wise.
It is now time to recognize a very important fact. The Town vote that was stuck in as a surprise to a large number of voters that went to the municipal polls last fall in substance, asked if we were in favour of borrowing 7 million dollars if the County would do the same. The County sensibly did not meet that figure, so I do hereby declare the vote null and void.
Taxpayers, in the name of common sense, let’s have our say loud and clear.
