Dear Editor,
I was told by the Town Manager and three Councillors that the Town Manager is closing the swimming pool in 2014. The swimming pool has not been shut down for its annual cleaning and repair, which it needs very badly. Staff are doing their best but the pool must be closed for two to three weeks if there is hope of keeping it open until the new pool is built. If the pool is closed in 2014 the wonderful staff we have now will all leave, there will be no training for new staff to be ready when and if the new pool opens. Where are all the Barrhead swimmers to go? We have a large competitive swim team, large aquasize classes, lane swimmers, people train for triathlons and other competitions and then public swim and parent and tot swim and probably more I have not thought of. I know that the Council is made up of well meaning people who do not know much about swimming or the pool, but please give this more thought. Town Councilors and Mayor do your duty and serve the public that elected you. Readers, please express your views to our remaining and new Councillors.
