I’d like to enter the library debate. Perhaps before a new library is built that only the school teachers want, we should poll the users.
My kids never used the library until university and college. This seems to be the opinion of most people I know. However, there are a lot of elderly people on fixed incomes that do; it’s a convenient place to go downtown for cheap book rentals and reminiscing over the archives.
I’m not saying we don’t need a new library, but it should be where the elderly gather and not at the multiplex.
There are quite a few people with the ability to look many years ahead and see the future. After all, that’s why some of the power brokers speculated so heavily on the land in the multiplex area. The more tax dollars spent up there, the better the speculation becomes.
If I have to choose which opinion is the right one to listen to, between a shrewd businessman who was the people’s choice for mayor, or a man who criticizes every decision and makes his living from the public trough, I pick the mayor.
