Who cares about treaties?

Cannabis legalization is still on track.

The legislation passed the second reading in the Canadian Senate last week by a narrow margin, 44 for and 29 against.

If the bill had been defeated, it would have meant back to the drawing board for Trudeau’s government and it is amusing to me that the Liberals had to scramble to get a bunch of their allies back to Ottawa in time for the vote.

For those that didn’t know, two separate senate committees were on the road and a few were off due to illness but the Prime Minister made an impassioned speech and the Senate’s whip did the best he could to ensure there were enough bodies present to prevent the Conservatives from voting down the legislation.

These are interesting times to be living in, that much is certain.

On the one hand, the self-proclaimed ‘stable genius’ south of the border is busy firing staff left and right and instigating a global trade war with all of his country’s allies, French president Emmanuel Macron is embroiled in scandal, Germany’s government is cozying up to Iran and the Chinese newspapers are all calling for military action against Taiwan.

Oh, and Russia is going to host the World Cup but everyone is comparing them to Hilter’s Olympics of 1934.

On the other hand, our own government is thumbing its nose at seven different international treaties by pushing marijuana legalization and doesn’t seem to care about anything but taxes and spending money.

All of that aside, because I’m sure the majority of you don’t really care, I was raised in a Conservative household.

That doesn’t mean, unlike the Conservative senators who were present for the vote, that I have to tow the party line.

I’m for legalization for two reasons.

Firstly, if you do a little bit of research you can see how beneficial it is medicinally.

Before you call and yell at me, understand that my dad has cancer and if he wants to use it to lessen his pain, he has my blessing.

Secondly, Fentanyl is on our streets and it is a super addictive substance drug dealers are blending into ALL of their products to sell more.

Fentanyl kills you.

I’d sleep easier if the government were regulating this stuff.

I just hope Trudeau and his cronies have the sense to use the profits in ways that matter and not just for lining their own pockets.
