It is time Remembrance Day became a national statutory holiday. For the last number of years, around this time, Barrhead Leader editorial staff have proposed that the federal government should make Nov. 11 a national statutory holiday.

Remembrance Day is not about taking a break from school or work. It’s about respect for the men and women who died to preserve the rights and freedoms that we enjoy. Were it not for their sacrifice, this world could look vastly different.

In that brief period between Halloween and Christmas, Remembrance Day comes about as a time to pause and think about the sacrifices those in the Canadian Armed Forces have made for this country.
