Remembrance Day is not about taking a break from school or work. It’s about respect for the men and women who died to preserve the rights and freedoms that we enjoy. Were it not for their sacrifice, this world could look vastly different.

Dear Editor, Re: Fiscal Report by the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) Front Page of the Town and Country, October 31, 2017.

In that brief period between Halloween and Christmas, Remembrance Day comes about as a time to pause and think about the sacrifices those in the Canadian Armed Forces have made for this country.

Congratulations to Lou Hall, Westlock County’s first-ever female reeve. Yes folks it’s taken 74 years for the county (the old MD of Westlock was formed in 1943) to finally have a woman as its leader.

Today is Halloween. That means all of us who are on the roads tonight need to keep our eyes peeled for little goblins, witches, Spider-Men and other spooks. It’s all about being driver safe.

It looks like Alberta will not scrap daylights savings after all and I for one am disappointed. For years, through various opinion pieces, I have lobbied the powers to be to scrap daylights savings time. As a person who grew up in Creston, B.C.

Picture this: You were young and went through considerable hardship battling demons within you. Now, you are in a much better place, having come to realize the demons are nothing to be afraid of but to be embraced.

The first time I stepped into a court room, I lost. My high school law class had a mock trial for a murder case, and I was the Crown. I underestimated how easy it is to poke reasonable doubt into a case.

Reading the articles referring to Small Business Week, it is clear that most businesses in Athabasca offer their services in a skillful and respectful manner.

Municipal governments have been formed and those of us that are optimistic about change have settled back into our lives.
