Fruitful? More like pointless and expensive. Particularly since the star of the show, Trump, walked out early.

Carney should have invited Javier Milei, the President of Argentina. He's not like the others. And he gets results.

"largely peaceful" ?

What exactly does that mean? Only a few cars will be burned and just a handful of government employees will be assaulted?

I have seen exactly zero serious efforts by the federal government to re-privatize the TMX. Perhaps you can provide a link?

Of course, if a private company is forced to assume repayment of the extremely bloated costs that the federal government unnecessarily caused on that project, then it's doubtful anyone will want to take it now. So the feds (aka us the taxpayers) would need to eat those costs before the project is financially viable.

And until that happens, it means the TMX is really just another massive socialist industrial failure.

"(the TMX) has been operating at approximately 80% of its 890,000 barrel-per-day capacity since May 2024, and this utilization has increased in the first quarter of this year."
Source: Google AI

80% utilization is getting pretty full actually. And it's only a single pipeline. If something goes wrong with it, utilization drops to zero and so do all the revenues it brings in. This is why we need more pipelines, both for oil and natural gas.

And it's far better for us to ship natural gas to Asia than watch them burn all that coal. Besides making money for us, it keeps the air a lot cleaner too. As for oil prices, the Saudi's dropped them to temporarily appease Trump. This can only ever last for a while. Then the Saudi treasury runs low and we are back to high oil prices.

I could not find any news about a deficit with the TMX in today's news. Could you provide a link?

Also, if that pipeline is not making money, no surprise there because it's owned and run by the federal government. The other pipelines in Alberta are all privately owned and operated and they all make money. They are also listed on the public stock markets so anyone can buy shares in them and receive dividends as well as capital gains if their stock prices go up.

In any event, the TMX never should have been nationalized in the first place. Private money was more than happy to twin the line and continue to operate it. But the government made it impossible for them to do that. Then the government nationalized it and now it's looking like another socialist industrial failure.

The best thing that could happen to the TMX is re-privatization. Then it will be run properly and it will not be a burden on the taxpayers.

This is good news indeed. Light pollution really is a scourge and I congratulate Bon Accord on this victory against it.

But Bon Accord is pretty small and it's rather close the glaringly bright city of Edmonton. So the total effect on our environment will be limited. Hopefully the province starts passing laws to force the big cities to cut back on all the useless light spilling out of them.

Then it will make a real difference.

And I should probably leave this one alone, but you used the term "capitalist pig". Besides being inflammatory and demeaning, it's also plain wrong to characterize capitalism that way.

I know for a fact that capitalism is the most successful, and yes, the most fair way humans have devised to create wealth and allocate resources. What you call "capitalism" is most likely "cronyism" or corrupted socialism. Those systems place an authority figure at the top of the economic pyramid and they reward loyalty and obedience, not innovation and creativity. They mimic capitalist systems but they lack genuine competition and economic and social freedom. I despise those systems for that reason.

Real capitalism on the other hand, is the one system that allows anyone to get wealthy on their own merit. And in a civilized society, those people give back a huge amount which benefits everyone. Space limits further comment, but you can read Adam Smith's Wealth of Nations for more info.
