What is Bylaw 2025-07?: Bylaw 2025-07 is a series of targeted amendments to the Town’s
Land Use Bylaw 2022-12, to address barriers to and encourage housing development in
Westlock. The amendments were developed in collaboration with local and prospective
builders, developers, and other representatives from the real estate and development
industries.
Whats changing?: The proposed amendments include changes to:
• How dwelling types are defined (use classes) and the types of dwellings desired in each
Residential Land Use District.
• The density maximums (units per parcel) and lot widths in identified Districts.
• Introduction of a new Land Use District (R1-B), intended to be used in new
neighbourhoods to offer a diversity of lot widths & housing types.
• New infill development provisions to mitigate the potential impact of new development
on established neighbourhoods.
• Parking requirements to ensure adequate on-site parking is provided.
• Site-specific redistrictings to address non-conforming residential properties to retain
existing housing stock.
A Public Hearing will be held to provide an opportunity for members of the public to
speak to Council on the proposed bylaw commencing at 6:30 p.m., Monday, June 9, 2025, at
Council Chambers (Heritage Building, 10007 100 Avenue, Westlock). Electronic attendance
will also be available via Zoom – connection details will be made available on the Town’s
website prior to the hearing at www.westlock.ca/p/events-calendar.
Written submissions are highly encouraged and may be provided to Council during the
Public Hearing, however, it is requested that a copy of the written submission be delivered to
the Town Office or emailed to [email protected], by 4:30 p.m. on June 9, to ensure that
each member of Council has a copy of the written submission for the Public Hearing.
Speaking at the Public Hearing: Members of the public who wish to address Council are
encouraged to register in advance by 4:30 p.m., June 9. This helps ensure you will be heard
at a specific time. People who do not register to speak in advance will be heard when time
permits. Each presenter will be allotted 5 minutes maximum to speak. The names of persons
providing comments will become part of the public record.
