Half a dozen RCMP officers in nearly as many police vehicles were on the scene of a fatality in Westlock’s Southview neighbourhood last Monday afternoon.

The body of a 93-year-old woman had been discovered outside a residence in the area. A passerby saw the body outside the front door of a residence and reported it to police.

Cpl. Lee Grieco-Savoy said the call came in around 1:50 p.m. Jan. 6 and officers quickly responded. Police marked off an area outside the home with crime scene tape and could be seen investigating the scene for several hours.

After consulting with the RCMP major crimes unit in Edmonton, police are saying the death is not suspicious.

“I can tell you at this time foul play is not suspected,” Grieco-Savoy said, adding medical professionals determined death was due to natural causes and there would be no autopsy.

“The doctors consulted, and they indicated they would be signing off on natural causes, and the death certificate would be assigned by her own doctor.”

Police are not releasing the name of the deceased, and Grieco-Savoy would not offer any more specifics on what had taken place.

“At this stage, we’re satisfied that foul play was not involved,” she said.
