Westlock RCMP have arrested a man for breaking and entering, but say at this point there’s no evidence the incident is related to a series of other recent thefts from local businesses.

“At this point in time, it’s an isolated incident,” Const. Dion Barry said. “There’s no direct connection to the other break-ins.”

Thieves have broken into and stolen items from several businesses in the downtown area along 107 Street in recent weeks.

Thieves broke into the Westlock Independence Network building in late may and made off with cash. The True Value Hardware store was broken into and $10,000 worth of items were stolen June 9. The next week, the NAPA Autoparts store was broken into overnight June 13, with about $5,000 worth of items stolen.

Police have said the thefts do not represent a drastic increase in this type of crime in town, and that there is no evidence of any connection between the incidents.

On June 29, police responded to an alarm at the Bargain Shop in Westlock at about 4 a.m.

No property was reported stolen, as the alarm caused the suspect to flee the scene.

“We responded there and found some scene evidence that lead us to the suspect,” Barry said.

The man was found at the parking lot of his residence and arrested. He was also wanted in connection with a June 25 shoplifting incident.

As of Friday, Barry said charges have not been laid.
