A payroll and accounting clerk formerly employed at Westlock County has been charged with fraud and theft.

Westlock RCMP Staff Sgt. Dwayne Rawson issued a media release last Friday, Oct. 31, saying Pamela Dizes had been charged with theft over $5,000 and two counts of fraud.

The issue of the possible theft first came to police attention Oct. 17, 2014.

“Westlock County reported to the Westlock RCMP about some missing funds they had uncovered,” says the release.

Upon completing the investigation, Dizes was charged and release to appear in court at a future date. When asked for further details, RCMP said the contents of the release were all the information they would be releasing.

Alberta Justice spokesperson Michelle Davio said that as of Friday afternoon, no information about charges against Dizes was in the computer system.

Reeve Bud Massey confirmed that Dizes is no longer an employee of the county, and said the allegations are “very disappointing,” but declined to comment further.

“We do not condone theft, and we are protectors of the public money,” he said. “Action is being taken.”

According to Dizes’ profile on the social media site Linkedin.com, she has been a payroll and accounting clerk with the county since March 2008.

The next docket day in Westlock Provincial Court is Nov. 5.
