Four newcomers elected to local school boards

Only one incumbent within the Westlock wards on both the Evergreen Catholic and Pembina Hills school boards was re-elected to her seat in the Oct. 21 election.

In Westlock Electoral Subdivision No. 1, newcomer Jackie Comeau defeated incumbent Sherry Allen with 553 votes to Allen’s 242 votes.

In Westlock Electoral Subdivision No. 2, incumbent Annette Bokenfohr held on to her seat with 312 votes, defeating Beth Siegle who had 177 votes.

In Westlock Electoral Subdivision No. 3, Jan Hoffart won the seat in a landslide with 727 votes. Incumbent David Truckey received 295 votes and Doug Pearson had 114 votes.

In all, the Pembina Hills school board will have four new faces during its next organization meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 30.

In Barrhead, newcomers Jennifer Tuininga and Judy Lefebvre, as well as incumbent Kim Webster, were elected to the board. Sheri Watson was acclaimed.

Voters also chose a new trustee in Evergreen Catholic Regional Separate School Division. Bob Oko received 260 votes to beat out long-time incumbent Caren Mueller, who had 155 votes.

Mueller had held the seat on the Evergreen board for 18 years, while Oko was a first-time candidate.
