The Jarvie Water Treatment Plant is still in limbo.

Al Scott, Westlock County’s director of engineering and infrastructure, told county council Dec. 13 that he and utility services manager Dwayne Keller are still sorting out whether the plant should be upgraded, or converted to a distribution plant.

“There are some things with respect to the Jarvie water treatment plant upgrade that I’m going to be meeting with Dwayne and possibly meet with Alberta Transportation for modification of the scope,” Scott said. “That’s still yet to be determined.”

He said he would also be meeting with engineering firm Stantec in the next couple of days regarding the $1.9 million project. The plan was to upgrade the plant’s reservoir and address odour and taste concerns with the water.

However, council postponed the project Sept. 27, in order for administration to discuss tying the project in with the Fawcett water line extension, which would transmit water from the Town of Westlock to Fawcett. The line would be under construction around the same time and would pass by Jarvie.

Shortly before council made that decision, six bids between $1.57 million to $1.82 million were submitted for tender.

Scott said the tenders were sent out prior to him taking his position with the county, but the Jarvie project was not awarded.
