A three-vehicle crash on Highway 44 half a mile south of the county line has left one man dead and several others injured.

The collision occurred on July 29, at around 3:30 p.m. just south of Township Road 572, said Westlock RCMP Const. Michael Zufferli.

Westlock RCMP responded to the call to assist Morinville RCMP, who have jurisdiction south of the county line.

Sturgeon County EMS and the Sturgeon County Fire Department also responded to the scene.

Three pick-up trucks, one of which was pulling a boat trailer and another was pulling a fifth wheel, were involved in the accident.

Zufferli said two of the pick-ups were travelling south and the one pulling the fifth wheel was heading north.

A Morinville RCMP media release indicates a 41-year-old Edmonton man was killed.

The chronology and cause of the collision is still under investigation, he said.

Alcohol has not been ruled out as a factor.

At around 4:50 p.m. a STARS helicopter arrived on scene to transport a 12-year-old girl to hospital.

Zufferli added he cannot release the name of the deceased, nor in which vehicle he or she was travelling until the next of kin have been notified.

The investigation is ongoing, and no charges have been laid at this time. All vehicle occupants were wearing seatbelts.
