Charles Navratil won’t serve a fourth term as Westlock County’s Division 4 councillor.

Rookie candidate Bud Massey more than doubled the former county reeve 319 to 155. Following the retirements of Bert Seatter and Mike Cook, Navratil would have been the most tenured county councillor.

In the wide open Division 2 race, Albert St. Louis, who lost the 2004 election, rose to the top of the five-man field. St. Louis, a veteran of 18 years as a county and MD of Westlock councillor, edged Jim Sterling 186 to 171. Third went to Allan Andersen who netted 87 votes. Rory McCormick, 60 votes, and Ian McConaghy, 41 votes, placed fourth and fifth respectively. Jerry Vervynck, who withdrew from the race in the week leading up to the election due to health problems, netted 11 votes.

Up in Division 7, Dennis Primeau will take over from Seatter, collecting 133 votes to Gordon Lea’s 110 total.

Finally in Division 6, which was vacated by Cook, Mel Kroetsch bested Tom Scott 174 to 82.

Ron Zadunayski, Division 1, Jim Wiese, Division 3, and Don Savage, Division 5, already claimed their seats via acclamation.

The new council’s first meeting will be on Tuesday, Oct. 29 when they’ll determine who will serve as reeve for the next year.

Results remain unofficial until Friday, Oct. 25.
