The first meeting board meeting for the Pembina Hills School Division on Aug. 22 features a wide variety of action taking.

Pembina Hills School Board is back in session on Friday, Aug. 22, with important updates and reviews for the 2025/2026 school year.

The 2025-2026 Board Work Plan outlines the annual schedule for the Board of Trustees that includes important dates, activities and key decisions.

At the upcoming August meeting, the board will review the employee handbook and the terms and conditions for non-union support staff members. Preparations will be made for the upcoming October election. The rest of the year has financial audits, education results and policy updates that will be decided on by the newly elected officials.

An accumulated deficit from operations elimination plan has been prepped for approval, as the board will review student fees against the consecutive enrolment projections for the upcoming year.

The board will have brief discussions on the 2025-2026 Employee Handbook and Non-Union Staff Terms and Conditions of Employment that include changing the Freedom of Information and Privacy (FOIP) Act to the new Protection of Privacy Act (POPA) and the Access to Information Act (ATIA) as per provincial standards.

Twenty-four administrative procedures will be updated, with some pertaining to privacy act changes, while others pertain to attendance protocols.

Before heading to the in-camera portion of the meeting, the trustees will take a moment to celebrate a few individuals from the community who made an impact. These include Citizenship Award winners Gerald Penner, Russell Wanzo, Avery Olsen, Ellia Young, Jolyn Terlouw and Kasen Gardiner and Sandy Doucet who won the Public School Boards’ Association of Alberta (PSBAA) Special Contributions to Public Education: Media Award on behalf of Town and Country for the consistent coverage of school events, campaigns, fundraisers and school board meetings.
