Westlock RCMP are investigating an alleged altercation that occurred in Westlock County council chambers last month.

The Westlock News was alerted of a purported physical altercation between two county councillors in April.

Reeve Bud Massey acknowledged there was an incident, but would not comment any further, citing an open police investigation.

“There was an issue in our council chambers. It’s internal … it’s under investigation by the RCMP,” Massey said. “I have no comment at this time.”

Westlock RCMP Staff Sgt. Dwayne Rawson confirmed Friday, April 29, that police are currently conducting an investigation and could not offer any further details.

At their April 26 meeting, county councillors discussed an agenda item labeled “council issue” during an in-camera session. Again, Massey would not comment on the item.

CAO Duane Coleman also declined comment saying he was not in council chambers at the time of the alleged incident. Several anonymous sources have come forward with claims of a physical altercation between two councillors following an April 11 meeting.
