A Westlock-area man is dead after a single-vehicle rollover just south of town.

RCMP report that shortly after 5:45 p.m. on July 20, they, along with EMS, the Westlock Rural Fire Department and the Busby Fire Department, responded to a single-vehicle rollover on Range Road 263 near Township Road 592 - south west of town just before Pickardville.

Police say the 40-year-old driver was reversing his vehicle on Range Road 263 when he lost control of it and it rolled backwards into the ditch - he was partially ejected from the vehicle.

When crews arrived the man was pinned underneath the SUV, but witnesses were able to free him. STARS Air Ambulance was dispatched, but did not transport the man, who pronounced dead at the scene.

'They managed to get him in the ambulance and they were trying to revive him, but they were unsuccessful," said Westlock RCMP Cpl. Lee Grieco-Savoy.

Three other passengers were uninjured.

Alcohol and road conditions are not considered factors, however police say they believe the driver was not wearing a seatbelt. The man's name will not be released by the RCMP.

One man is dead following a fiery single-vehicle crash on Highway 2 between Westlock and Slave Lake on July 22.

At 2:20 a.m. Slave Lake RCMP along with EMS, fire personnel and STARS Air Ambulance were dispatched to the scene about 52 kilometres south of Slave Lake. Police say a southbound pickup truck crossed the centre and entered into the opposite ditch before striking the guardrail and rolling down an embankment. The driver and passenger, both adult men, were able to exit the truck before it caught fire.

One man died on scene, while the other was airlifted to hospital by STARS.
