The former Sobeys employee who has admitted to stealing roughly $90,000 from the store will wait until June to be sentenced.
Christine Tan pleaded guilty to one count of theft over $5,000 when she appeared in Westlock Provincial Court March 5.
In total, Tan pleaded guilty to stealing close to $90,000 over several months by filing false return claims, said Crown prosecutor Eman Joumaa. In laying their charges, RCMP used video evidence and the falsified forms.
In addition, Tan admitted to committing the crime prior to appearing in court, Joumaa said. A request to have the full amount paid back via restitution has also been filed, she said.
Defence lawyer Gary Smith requested a pre-sentence report be compiled before his client is sentenced, which Judge Karl Wilberg agreed to allow. Tan is scheduled to be sentenced June 25.
Tan’s proceedings were scheduled for summary disposition on Jan. 29, but had to be put off because Smith was not in court.
The matters were also scheduled to be resolved Jan. 19, but the same situation arose then.
On Jan. 29, Crown prosecutor Jeff Morrison asked that Judge Norman Mackie issue an order compelling Smith to appear in person on March 5.
