Teens gathered at the Westlock Library on July 15 to solve the gruesome murder of the Head Camp Counsellor, Brett Seehan.
As part of their Camp Read S’more program this summer, Heleena Neuman and Brelayna Muller, summer event planners with Westlock Library, put together a murder mystery game for those ages 12 to 18.
Creepy forest music and detailed props filled the far corner of the library as the campers gathered to find whodunnit. The teens were able to investigate all seven tables that contained details from the few days before the murder, giving them a list of suspects, locations and motives to work with.
Neuman and Muller went all out with the details, creating the entire premise from scratch based on this week's theme of wild animals. From handmade props to even staged photos of Brett being attacked by a ‘deranged owl’, they made a grown-up game that teens can feel seen and heard while participating in.
The six participants were divided into a boys versus girls battle for who could solve the big mystery first. Both teams used their wit and investigative skills to solve it within a hair of each other, leaving the boys' team victorious.
More programs will be happening throughout the summer, with Neuman and Muller planning an apocalypse-themed escape room for teens and adults on August 5.
