Two vehicles collide at busy Westlock County intersection

A Toyota and Chevy truck collided at Hwy 44 and 651 on Aug. 6. Multiple people were taken to hospital. Both vehicles suffered major damage.

WESTLOCK COUNTY - A car crash was reported at the intersection of Highway 44 and 651 near the hamlet of Busby going southbound on August 6, after it was reported that a Toyota collided with a Chevrolet truck.

While the details of the crash are still under investigation, the scene depicted a collision between two vehicles at the intersection between highway 44 and 651. The front driver's side of the Toyota was torn, and the wheel was facing outwards. The white Chevrolet took the brunt of the damage on the driver's side, where the driver's side doors were smashed inward with the wheels being shredded as well.

Both firefighters and EMS were on the scene at approximately 11:04 a.m., where two county stations responded to the call for safety and traffic management purposes. Traffic going southbound towards St. Albert was stopped with crews guiding cars in both directions.

No injuries were reported at the scene, but two EMS units transported multiple patients for examination to the hospital.

John Biro, Manager of Protective Services for Westlock County, said that during incidents like this, reducing speed is a necessity, “People need to slow down, give way and be courteous. Including commercial haulers.”

Both vehicles are undriveable, according to Biro. They were pulled off of Highway 44, the side of Highway 651, where they are waiting to be towed.
