WESTLOCK – On Saturday, Nov. 23 the Westlock Minor Hockey Association held their Fundraiser Gala to help keep kids on the ice.

“It's the fundraiser of the year. We roughly make about $25,000 to $30,000 after the bills are paid for the event,” said Justin Skogstad, the association's fundraiser, 11-1 system coach and U-7 director for the board.

“We've had 350 people attend so it's a pretty big turn out.”

Several generous companies donated to the auction.

“Lucid Heating donated a garage unit heater installed, an impressive donation,” said Skogstad.

Western Weather Protection always buys a table every year in support of minor hockey and is usually successful in winning the bidding on live auction items.

Westlock Motors, the GM dealership in town they always buy large auction items supporting the association.

Councillor David Truckey and Dennis Landry are also strong supporters of the minor hockey association fundraiser.

Water Simple and Carl’s Auto donated items for the auction.

Horizon Ag & Turf/ John Deere has also been a large supporter over the years contributing to the auction.

The Westlock Minor Hockey association includes teams ranging in age from seven year olds to 18-year-old players.

They practice at the Westlock Spirit Centre Monday to Thursday with Games on Friday nights, Saturdays and Sundays. Dedicated players practice, play in league games and participate in tournaments through-out the season.

Hockey families are dedicated in their commitment to getting players to all of these events, cheering these hard-working hockey enthusiasts on to do their best, and driving all over the province to attend the tournaments.

The Westlock Minor Hockey Association has an excellent website with schedules, and team information at http://westlockminorhockey.org/

“Dinner was at 6 p.m. catered by Rootin’ Tootin’ Boutins at 7 p.m., we had a live auction and at 8 p.m. and we had the comedian Adam Blank performing again with a DJ to follow. “

“It's my third year running the fundraiser,” said Skogstad.
