WESTLOCK – A Westlock-area man who police say fled from them multiple times over the past two weeks, is now behind bars and faces 10 charges ranging from assault, to driving while prohibited and uttering threats.

Westlock RCMP Detachment acting commander Riley Sutherland said that on July 7 they laid charges against a 39-year-old Westlock-area man that included assault, assault while choking, flight from police, operating a motor vehicle while prohibited, uttering threats and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle but were unable to arrest him.

The following day, July 8, when they again attempted to cuff him, he fled in a vehicle, which led to charges of operating a motor vehicle while prohibited and flight from police. On July 17, RCMP finally arrested him in the Hamlet of Vimy after a short foot pursuit, which led to additional charges of resisting a peace officer and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Sutherland said July 19 that the man, who is from the area but has no fixed address, remains behind bars at the Edmonton Remand Centre and is scheduled to be in Westlock Court of Justice later this month.
