Nominations for the Oct. 21 municipal and school board elections closed at noon on Sept. 23.

Although candidates have until noon on Sept. 24 to formally withdraw from the race, here is a breakdown of all the candidates who filed their papers to sit on Westlock town council, Westlock County council, Village of Clyde council and the Pembina Hills school board.

Voters will have a lot of choice when it comes to who will sit on Westlock town council, as 13 people are running for the six councillor positions, along with three mayoral candidates.

The race for mayor includes the same three people who had declared their intention to run before nomination day. Residents have a choice to make between Robin Brett, Ralph Leriger and Marjorie Sterling Miller.

Incumbent councillors Clem Fagnan, Sheila Foley and David Truckey are all running again for another term as town councillors. They are up against challengers Garth Bancroft, Lisbeth Booth, Wyatt Glebe, John Kingma, Wayne Lannon, William Norton, Doug Pearson, Benita Pedersen, John Shoemaker and Curtis Snell.

In the county, four divisions will see voters go to the polls, while three councillors have been acclaimed.

In Div. 2, Allan Andersen, Ian McConaghy, Rory McCormick, Albert St. Louis, Jim Sterling and Jerry Vervynck are competing for the vacant seat.

Div. 4 features a race between Bud Massey and incumbent Charles Navratil.

Mel Kroetsch and Tom Scott are running against each other to replace retiring Coun. Mike Cook in Div. 6.

Up in Div. 7, Gordon Lea and Dennis Primeau are facing off to replace Coun. Bert Seatter, who despite stating his intention to run did not file his nomination papers.

Councillors Ron Zadunayski (Div. 1), Jim Wiese (Div. 3) and Don Savage (Div. 5) were all acclaimed to another term.

In the village of Clyde, all four current councillors – Christa Clausing, Nat Dvernichuk, Doug Nyal and Neil Olson – filed to run again.

The only new name to file nomination papers is Donald Domingue.

As there are only five councillors in the village, voters will not need to go to the polls to choose a new council.

Voters in all three Westlock area school subdivisions will be headed to the polls.

In the Westlock rural-north subdivision, Sherry Allen is up against Jackie Comeau.

In Westlock rural-south, Annette Bokenfohr and Beth Siegle will square off.

Voters in town have three potential trustees to choose from: Jan Hoffart, Doug Pearson and David Truckey.
