There was little disagreement among the candidates on the major issues facing both Westlock County and Pembina Hills Public Schools during an Oct. 5 forum at the Busby Community Hall. Just shy of 40 residents asked county Div.

Town residents will have the opportunity to meet town council candidates one-on-one Oct. 11 and 14 at the Westlock Municipal Library.

The election was over even before it began for Jackie Comeau and Caren Mueller. Both women were acclaimed following Nomination Day, Sept. 19.

As the Oct. 16 Municipal Election inches closer, advance polls and election forums are on tap for the coming weeks. Division 2 will host its electoral speakers forum and “meet the candidates” Thursday, Oct. 5 at the Busby Community Hall.

With the Oct. 16 Municipal Election on the horizon, current Westlock County councillors will individually review the 27 recommendations from the municipal inspection report and offer responses at their final Oct. 10 meeting.

Ralph Leriger will serve another four years as mayor of the Town of Westlock. Leriger said he is humbled to accept a second term after no challengers emerged on Nomination Day, Sept. 18. In 2013, the mayoral race featured three candidates.

Despite all the criticisms within the 116-page Aug. 30 municipal inspection report crafted by Strategic Steps Inc., Westlock County is in good financial health, although public opinion of the county’s finance and service levels is average at best.
