The Canadian Ski Patrol is once again aiming to break a world record for snow angels.

The organization is making its attempt on Canadian Ski Patrol Day Feb. 3 in over 80 resorts across the country, according to a Jan. 16 press release. The local Canadian Ski Patrol – Pembina Zone will also be participating at the Pine Valley Resort in Tawatinaw starting at 10:45 a.m.

Pembina Zone president Courtney Muller said it is a unique opportunity for locals to be part of something big.

“One of these unique opportunities for our local people to be part of this local scheme,” Muller said. “To be part of something like this that’s a world record.”

The current Guinness World Record for most snow angels made together at multiple locations record is 15,851. The Canadian Ski Patrol has been unable to break the record in its past two attempts but Muller said in an interview a new partnership with the US-based National Ski Patrol will improve the odds.

“Adding that as our partners in this world record attempt, we should have no problem beating the world record,” Muller said.

Muller said in an interview last year’s attempt brought in 83 people making snow angels to Pine Valley but he hopes to raise that figure to 200 for the local resort this year.

“We just really appreciate the support of anyone that can come out and do a snow angel,” Muller said.
