Boyle RCMP are investigating an armed robbery that occurred on the evening of Jan. 4 at a convenience store within the village.

According to a Jan. 5 RCMP press release, members responded to a complain of an armed robbery around 6:30 p.m. A man walked into the store and demanded money from staff members while yielding a knife.

“The suspect then left the store with an undisclosed amount of money. No one was harmed,” the release said.

Cst. Andrew Deme said he could not release the name of the store, out of “respect of the victim.”

Deme said the suspect was wearing a hoodie that masked his identity, but upon initial statements police are looking for an Indigenous or white male, five feet five inches tall with a small build and wearing a black hoodie, dark sunglasses and blue jeans.

The release said RCMP “made extensive patrols in the area” but the suspect was not located.

“If the public has seen anything or they’re hearing anything just to forward that information to us or can choose to forward it to Crime Stoppers where it is anonymous, as we’d like to bring this to a conclusion so we can give the victim some piece of mind,” Deme said.

Anyone with information about the robbery is encouraged to call the Boyle RCMP at 780-689-4081, or can provide tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or www.tipsubmit.com.

Deme said anyone who is victim of an armed robbery situation should avoid putting themselves at risk.

“A lot of things like these are unpredictable,” he said. “Just remain calm, try to gather as much information as possible in that short amount of time, because then you are able to provide those descriptions to police.”
