Athabasca RCMP arrest man, seize drugs and weapons during warrant search

Execution of a search warrant for controlled substances results in multiple charges

Athabasca RCMP and the Eastern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit seized body armour, knives, guns, ammunition, and substances believed to be cocaine and methamphetamine during the Oct. 26 search.

ATHABASCA — One man has been arrested along with the seizure of weapons, ammunition, and illegal drugs by Athabasca RCMP and the Eastern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit during an authorized search of a Calling Lake residence. 

 

In an Oct. 27 press release, Athabasca RCMP announced the execution of a search warrant at a residence in Calling Lake Oct. 26 regarding the sales of controlled substances. Police seized approximately 1,200 rounds of ammunition, several firearms, as well as knives and body armour. Substances believed to be cocaine and methamphetamine were also located and seized. The RCMP were unable to add any further detail during an Oct. 27 follow-up. 

 

 “Athabasca RCMP will continue to be meeting with stakeholders within our community to ensure everyone feels safe and secure,” Staff Sgt. Mark Hall said in a press release.  

 

Chad Craig Young, a 38-year-old resident of Calling Lake has been charged with multiple offences, including several firearm offences and possession for the purpose of trafficking.  

 

Young was held for a judicial interim release hearing and released by a Justice of the Peace to appear at Athabasca Court of Justice Nov. 27.
