Boyle trailer fire under investigation

Details surrounding the June 17 night-time fire that destroyed one home are still being looked at

BOYLE — Third Avenue in Boyle has one less habitable house after a June 17 fire left at least one trailer in flames in the middle of the night.

Village of Boyle fire crews responded to the blaze across from the Hooters Truck Stop around 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17, followed shortly by crews from Athabasca County, Colinton and Caslan.

Athabasca Regional Deputy Fire Chief Travis Krahn took over the scene upon arrival, and managed the crews containing the blaze until around 4 a.m. on Wednesday morning. Krahn said he's not aware of any injuries or death, human or animal as a result.

“The fire department in Boyle did a really good job getting there and getting water onto everything as fast as they could,” said Krahn. “We were able to mitigate the scene in good time.”

Adrian Eaton from Sparklean DKI Restorations in St. Albert was on the property the following day, and warned the former tenant and anyone else against entering the property due to significant structure damage, and said the trailer was a complete write-off.

Damage to neighbouring properties is also visible; siding on neighbouring houses to the west and south across the alley melted due to the heat, and flames did jump into the trailer directly to the east, causing damage to the roof area on the south end.

Krahn and Eaton were unable to provide information on the cause and nature of the blaze, and said local RCMP are looking into the incident.

Boyle detachment commander Dennis Properzi was unavailable for comment before publication.

Krahn said a timeline for when more information from the fire investigator on the nature of the fire will be available is hard to estimate.

“It’s really tough to say how long the process will take,” said Krahn. “I know some of them we’ve been involved with have been quite lengthy, but it’s really tough to say how long it will take to put all the information together."
