A hidden meth lab was discovered and dismantled by the RCMP after public complaints about an abandoned vehicle led them to the scene.
On April 19, the Red Earth Creek RCMP received a complaint about an abandoned vehicle near Trout Lake that appeared to contain stolen property.
Trout Lake, a small community 100 km north of Wabasca, is in the Red Earth Creek jurisdiction in the winter, but can only be accessed in the summertime by driving through Wabasca.
After locating the vehicle — a green van — the vehicle’s contents were located in a nearby wooded area according to a April 30 press release. Firearms and chemicals used to cook meth were found near a tent, so the officers called the Clandestine Laboratory Enforcement and Response (CLEAR) team to assist and make sure the area was safe.
While no methamphetamine was found, three firearms were seized as well as the chemicals. The camp was dismantled.
“I would like to start by thanking the member of the public who came forward with this information” said Cpl. Kevin Douglas, OPS NCO for the Red Earth Creek RCMP. “This is a great example of how your Alberta RCMP can come together and work as a unit to ensure full coverage of every community we police. Furthermore, specialized units like the RCMP Federal Policing Northwest Region’s CLEAR team only highlight the expertise within our organization. Thank you to everyone who assisted on this file.”
