Athabasca town councillors are set to address a lengthy agenda package during their meeting Nov. 7, which will begin with a public hearing on a property rezoning request.

ATHABASCA — Town of Athabasca councillors will be addressing a lengthy agenda package during their upcoming meeting on the evening of Nov. 7.

The meeting will kick off with a public hearing scheduled for 6 p.m. for resident feedback on a rezoning request submitted by Caribou Ridge Consulting. Councillors may opt to give the amended bylaw second and third readings, or table a decision to an upcoming meeting after discussion.

Councillors will also review the Athabasca Regional Multiplex Society’s operating budget, which comes with a $940,000 requisition from the town for the 2024 fiscal year. Councillors also have the option of approving in principle a 5 per cent per year increase in requisition amounts for the 2025-2027 draft operating budgets.

Other items slated to be in front of councillors include a request for a $341 recycling over-charge, a signage request from local internet provider Swift-Net, and reviews of multiple grant opportunities — numerous potential projects could qualify for funding under the Northern and Regional Economic Development program, and a TransCanada trail development grant could be applicable to the Athabasca Landing Trail network.

The agenda for the Nov. 7 meeting can be found here, and the public hearing will begin at 6 p.m. in the Town of Athabasca council chambers.
