The Northern Lights Spiritus Singers are sure to spread the warmth of the season at their 11th annual concert series in December.

Singer and director Gerry Kiselyk said the group has been practising for months.

The annual holiday concert will be performed four times at the Nancy Appleby Theatre: on Thursday (Dec. 12), Friday (Dec. 13) and Saturday (Dec. 14) evenings, and as a matinee on Sunday (Dec. 15). Kiselyk stated the concert would be an hour and a half with approximately 80 singers overall.

Admission to the concerts is free, and space is always at a premium, according to Kiselyk.

“It is always free, but we take donations, which we pass on to charities,” he said. “The whole choir discusses what charities we can put the money towards. We try to keep it local, as well as non-individual specific.”

The concert was started 11 years ago and has become a tradition.

“It was started by Leah Meyer-Cook, who wanted to bring music at Christmas back to the community,” Kiselyk said. “This year, we are performing A Celtic Christmas, and most of the songs have a Celtic lilt.”

Kiselyk said there would be a few a capella songs, which haven’t been attempted by this group in previous years.

“We have some a capella songs we will be challenging,” he said. “Come out and have a listen.”
