Incumbent Doris Splane pulled ahead in the Division 3 (Boyle area) race against past Aspen View school board trustee Wes Kowalchuk to win a spot on Athabasca County council this evening.
"You know what? I have one thing to say. And that's to God be the glory. I don't know what else to say,” said Splane. “And I want to thank everyone who supported me, and I can't wait to get back to work.”
Splane brought in 213 votes, while Kowalchuk brought in 165.
Prior to the election, Splane said there are still projects underway she wants to see through, such as assisted living in the Boyle area.
Splane said it is too early for her to identify priorities; for now, she wants to savour the moment and take the week to spend time with family while she gears up for the county organizational meeting.
