Boyle and area residents will be without a doctor for a day as no coverage could be found.

BOYLE — The Boyle Healthcare Centre emergency department will be temporarily closed due to lack of physician coverage Sept. 29, according to a press release from Alberta Health Services (AHS).

The closure will occur between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. Sept. 29, although nurses will still be available to triage any patients seeking emergency care, and refer anyone in need of treatment to the nearest emergency departments in Athabasca, Smoky Lake, and Lac La Biche.

Boyle’s emergency department will also temporarily remain closed nightly between the hours of 8 p.m. and 9 a.m., due to an ongoing shortage of nursing staff. Resources for non-emergency healthcare needs such as Health Link at 811 are still available for residents in the area.

AHS stated the closure may not occur if physician or locum coverage is found before Sept. 29. More information and up-to-date information on the temporary disruptions can be found here
