Calling Lake — A string of break and enters in the Calling Lake area has led to the arrest of three young men and the recovery of several stolen items, according to a Dec. 17 Athabasca RCMP media release.

On Dec. 13, Athabasca RCMP responded to multiple calls about overnight break-ins in the North Beach and Calling Lake Drive area. An investigation was initiated, and officers learned almost a dozen residences had been broken into, and property including firearms and several off-highway vehicles were stolen.

RCMP members were able to identify a number of suspects with the help of CCTV footage and the help of community members. Extensive patrols of the area were conducted on Dec. 15, resulting in the recovery of various stolen items and the arrests of three suspects.

Kyzic Bigstone, a 22-year-old Calling Lake resident, was arrested and charged with theft of a motor vehicle, break and enter, and failure to comply with a release order, among other charges. Two youth males were also arrested and charged, and all three young men were taken before a Justice of the Peace.

Bigstone and one youth were remanded into custody and will appear in Athabasca Court of Justice Dec. 18. The second youth was released with conditions and will attend a scheduled court appearance in the coming weeks.
