Trevor Yeaman has been acclaimed as an Aspen View Public School Board trustee.

Yeaman was one of six non-incumbents to throw their hats into the ring during last Monday’s nomination period. Three incumbents were also nominated.

Yeaman was acclaimed in the north-central ward, which comprises all Athabasca schools (Whispering Hills Primary School, Landing Trail Intermediate School and Edwin Parr Composite School). Dennis MacNeil, who was previously a trustee for the south Athabasca and Rochester area, was also acclaimed in the north-central ward.

The north-central ward is the only one of the seven new Aspen View wards to have two trustees.

“I really had no intention of running as fall arrived, but then I had a number of people from the community come and ask if I would allow my name to stand,” Yeaman said. “They had expressed that they would support me in that role.”

Yeaman said being acclaimed felt good, especially “knowing that I wasn’t going to have to go out there and go door to door, even though that would have been beneficial.”

He explained, “I ran three years ago for the Boyle-Grassland area.”

Yeaman said he appreciates the challenges facing both students and teachers.

“I know some of the stresses that our teachers are going through and feel that they need support, but also that our students really need support,” he said.

Yeaman cares about the community and wants to be involved.

“I have been pastoring up at Aspen Ridge Christian Fellowship for the last eight years,” he said. “It is a real privilege to have a family and to be part of a family, and we see our community as part of the family.”

He said in addition to serving the community, he loves to be outdoors “quading, fishing and being physically active, whether it is running or swimming.”

“I really want people to know that I care about their kids, and I care about the state of our community, and I think our education system is really important,” he said.

Bob Hooey is running for school board trustee in the southwest ward (which includes Rochester School and Thorhild Central School) against Patricia Pedersen.

Aspen View also accepted nominations at the Smoky Lake County office, where Randy Uglanica is running for reelection in the south-central ward (which includes H.A. Kostash School in Smoky Lake); Elohne Chizawsky is running against him.

Paul Ponich - northeast ward (Boyle School and Grassland School); previously trustee for Athabasca northeast

Lewis Semashkewich - northwest ward (Smith School)

Donna Cherniwchan - southeast ward (Vilna School)
