BOYLE — All Athabasca County residents evacuated due to the wildfire on Highway 831 can now return home.

At 2 p.m., Athabasca County announced evacuation orders have been lifted for the 16 rural residences south of the Village of Boyle. All properties remain on evacuation alert as crews continue to manage hot spots and clean up efforts, and the state of local emergency will remain in place until further notice.

All residents are encouraged to check electrical applicances such as fridges and freezers for spoiled goods due to power interruptions in the area. Those without power upon arrival home can contact Fortis at 1-866-717-3113.

Highway 831 south of the village remains closed to allow crews the space and safety to continue their response. Visible smoke in the area is to be expected.
