The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is investigating after the discharge of an RCMP firearm injured one male in Athabasca March 2. 

A man with severe bleeding was taken out of Spruceland Apartments in Athabasca by Emergency Medical Services shortly before 11 a.m. Athabasca RCMP members and EMS were on scene. 

According to an RCMP press release, at about 10:17 a.m., RCMP members responded to a call regarding a disturbance at the building. The release states that as members approached the suspect to investigate further, a confrontation occurred leading to the discharge of an officer’s firearm.

"The male involved in this incident was airlifted to hospital and is in stable condition," the release states.

The release states the Alberta RCMP will not be commenting further on this incident.
