Boyle RCMP responded to two fatal crashes on Highway 63 over the weekend. The first occurred on Saturday at approximately 11:50 a.m. The crash occurred 45 kilometres north of Wandering River at kilometre marker 91.

Athabasca town councillors showed their support for a new housing project by passing first reading of a rezoning at their Nov. 6 meeting and scheduling a public hearing for next month.

The driver of a GMC Sierra was airlifted to Edmonton after an early morning collision on Hwy 63 north of Boyle. A two-vehicle collision occurred at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday morning on Hwy 63 just north of the Hwy 55 turnoff.

Athabasca woman Joanne Grenier has been identified as the winner of the $1 million Oct. 26 Lotto Max win. Grenier was running late on Oct. 29, and almost didn’t stop to check her Lotto Max ticket, which she had purchased at Buy-Low Foods.

The Village of Boyle is proceeding with the purchase of land that will house a new administrative building and community library, as well as other potential services, sometime in the near future.

Boyle RCMP Cst. Jason Clace, 34, has been charged with five offenses in connection to a traffic stop last year that ended with his firearm being discharged.

There is no talk of school closures in Aspen View School Division, despite the recent news that three schools have fallen below critical minimum enrolment numbers.

Travel Alberta held an open house in Athabasca last Friday where they met with local tourism operators. “The open houses are really designed to connect with people,” said Royce Chwin, vice president of marketing and communications for Travel Alberta.
