Tributes poured in last week for Bert Proft, one of Barrhead’s longest serving Town councillors, who has died at the age of 75.

For first-rate family entertainment, Barrhead is the place to be on Saturday. Organizers are appealing for fun-seekers to converge on the town in record numbers and make the 2013 festival a spectacular success.

A group of youth have come together to voice their concerns about the state of the Barrhead skate park, and are seeking solutions to the deterioration of the facility.

Drive past the Northplex plant and you will see workers busy on a two-storey house overlooking the road. Against a clear spring sky, its burgundy walls create a pleasing contrast.

When the bus left Blue Heron Support Services at 10 a.m. on a cool, slightly overcast Wednesday it was packed. On board were 35 people, from Blue Heron staff and clients to parents, guardians and concerned community members.

Barrhead Mayor Brian Schulz has voiced dismay at reports that dozens of Blue Heron jobs could be axed because of budget cuts.
