Engineers who investigated last July’s sewage flooding in Barr Manor have recommended a public awareness program for lot drainage improvements.

First it was the Whitecoat March to the Legislature. Now it is the “Barrhead Rally.” Local pharmacists are preparing to make their voices heard with a street demonstration on Thursday, April 11 against government’s proposed generic drug cuts.

When pharmacist Rita Lyster moved into her new Main Street premises she was realizing a business dream. It represented a huge investment. As the building was bigger than her previous location nearby it meant higher rent.

So much for spring. Storm-battered Barrhead took on a wintry look last Thursday, with scenes more characteristic of January – blizzards, snow-covered roads, vehicles in ditches, and graders and snowplows out and about.

They donned white coats and brightly coloured signs, trudging through the storm. Though the snow came down hard showing little hope of letting up, there was no stopping them as they braved the weather for their voice to be heard.

They came, they charmed us, and they said sayonara far too soon. How quickly time went! No sooner had they arrived than Ayami Ujihara, Rikuya Satoh, Fuko Asabatake, Tomonori Umeda, Takahito Narita and Miwa Nakadai were saying goodbye to Barrhead.

Barrhead pharmacist Rita Lyster and her staff will be donning white coats when they join a budget protest march on the Alberta Legislature on Thursday.

When students at Neerlandia Public Christian School were asked to put together gift baskets for an auction fundraiser, their response was astonishing. The expectation was 10 baskets, one from each grade, including kindergarten.

Barrhead said “konnichiwa” last Friday to Ayami Ujihara, Rikuya Satoh, Fuko Asabatake, Tomonori Umeda, Takahito Narita and Miwa Nakadai.

Architect’s drawings have created a vision for Barrhead’s proposed new aquatic centre. The pre-design plans include a six-lane competition pool, waterslide, lazy river, spray park, leisure pool and hot tub.
