BARRHEAD - The Town of Barrhead held a subdued Canada Day celebration inside the Agrena on July 1. Activities started at 11 a.m. with a barbecue by Freson Bros. From noon to 4 p.m.
From noon to 4 p.m., the parks and recreation department hosted a mini-inflatable village and assorted games in the foyer, supervised by the supervisors of the rec department's summer day camp programs. The town had planned to host activities at the splash park but was cancelled due to rain.
At 5 p.m., County of Barrhead resident Justin Wiersinger held an hour concert/dance party. The town's Canada Day celebrations concluded with a fireworks show with the help of the Barrhead Regional Fire Services at 11 p.m.
In Neerlandia, the weather also hampered the hamlet's Canada Day festivities, with rain cancelling the tractor races and other outdoor activities. However, Neerlandia Sports Committee member Seth Olthuis noted that about 600 people attended the community's Canada Day breakfast.
